Kansas City Chiefs Confirm Domestic Violence Claims Connected to Player Rashee Rice
The Kansas City Chiefs issued a statement on Wednesday evening indicating they have knowledge of domestic violence allegations made public in social media posts by a ex-partner of wide receiver Rashee Rice and were in contact with the NFL.
The team omitted the name of the player by name in their statement and noted they would have “nothing more to add at this time”.
Claims Shared on Social Media
The woman, who likewise did not name the athlete directly, posted a set of images on social media that seemed to depict indicators of bodily harm. She stated the person involved was the father of her children, and reports indicate she has two children with Rice, whom the team drafted in the second round.
Official Complaints Currently Not on File
No official complaints were available in Overland Park, Kansas where the alleged abuse is said to have taken place.
Player's Recent Legal Issues
The receiver was absent for the first six games of this season due to an NFL suspension for his involvement in instigating a multi-vehicle accident on a Dallas highway that left several individuals hurt. He was sentenced 30 days in jail and probationary supervision after pleading guilty to felony charges.
Statistically, he concluded the year with 53 receptions for 571 receiving yards and five touchdowns as the Chiefs finished with a losing record and failed to qualify for the postseason for the first time in a ten-year span.
