Tom Clancy's The Division Makes Its Way to the Tabletop as a Deeply Strategic TTRPG
The intense universe from Tom Clancy’s The Division will be translated into a tabletop role-playing experience. A partnership has been formed to create a tabletop RPG that explores the series' post-pandemic landscape. The project was revealed, with a funding drive planned to begin in April of 2026.
"This project aims to deliver the franchise’s distinctive tension, tactical intensity, and memorable setting to the tabletop, offering fans a new way to engage with The Division through immersive storytelling and player-driven missions," states an announcement.
Launch products will include a beginner's box, essential manuals, a Game Master screen, miniatures, and various deluxe editions.
Exploring The Division's Apocalyptic World
In this universe, a lethal pathogen known as Green Poison was released in NYC, sending the nation into chaos. As the pandemic escalates, society crumbles and hostile groups emerge, turning the city into a warzone. To preserve law and order, the government {activate|deploy] The Division, a covert network of undercover operatives. This is where the agents enter the story.
Work on the RPG has been underway for about several years, and it is reportedly finished. The forthcoming crowdfunding effort will function as a pre-launch sales platform to reach a wider market, particularly in North America. Production will start right after the fundraiser, with shipping expected for later in 2026.
An Innovative Tactical System: The GRIS System
An early look at the system reveals it uses 10-sided dice exclusively through its proprietary GRIS system, encouraging a streamlined and strategic approach. Agents leverage skills or traits to roll a handful of dice, usually from one to five d10s.
- Instead of summing the total, participants select a single “resolution die” from the pool.
- This dice is then measured against a target difficulty.
- Achieving a natural 10 grants additional bonuses, such as increased harm or enhanced aid.
Engagements Focus On Tactical Placement and Awareness
Fights prioritize positioning and situational awareness, reflecting the source material. Factors like cover, height advantage, or visibility directly influence success chances. This mechanic seems built to favor coordination and smart positioning over simple statistics.
A Novel Health Mechanic
The way injuries is managed introduces a compelling thematic twist. Agents have a wound threshold; taking heavy hits weakens their effectiveness by decreasing the number of d10s.
- At zero health, an agent collapses, but they’re not knocked out.
- They can still crawl and take limited actions, simulating the "downed" state common to many shooter games.
- Any player knocked down must roll on a injury chart, risking lingering conditions like shock or crippling injuries.
A Ready-to-Play Adventure
A publicly available introductory rulebook is promised soon. It includes a ready-to-play introductory scenario called Ashes of Murray Hill. In this mission, players lead the hunt for a lost doctor squad and work to stop an attack by the violent Rikers faction, who have seized control of that Manhattan district. More specifics and the complete product lineup are expected to be unveiled near the Kickstarter start date.
